Bikini Line Laser Hair Removal: Is It Worth Your Money?

Razor bumps after shaving can seem like a never-ending frustration. The feeling is magnified when you put on swimsuits and notice the red bumps on your inner thighs and bikini line even more! For quite a while I had resigned myself to the permanent presence of those bumps. Then, while doing research one day, I stumbled upon the suggestion that bikini laser hair removal could significantly reduce irritation in these sensitive areas after shaving.

I was intrigued and excited that there could be a solution to my razor bump woes. It made sense: less hair = less irritation, right? But how would it feel? And was it a treatment that could even be in my price range? I still had a lot of questions, and if you’re considering bikini laser hair removal, I’m sure you do too! Here’s what I learned after doing laser hair removal for a period of two years:

Laser Hair Removal Cost

Money was a factor that had long kept me hesitant about investing in bikini laser hair removal. I assumed that it would cost me hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars once it was done. I was entirely wrong!

The company that I ended up choosing is called Simplicity Laser, and they have multiple locations around the US, including here in the Kansas City area. I chose to start with their bikini bundle, which is eight sessions for $79.

After those eight sessions (which are spaced 6 weeks apart), I decided to expand out from just my bikini line and have my whole inner thigh area done as well. For that, I chose an 18-month package. During that time, I paid $14 a month for the period of 18 months, totaling $252. I was still doing one session every six weeks, so I got in around thirteen sessions during that time. If you’re following along with me and doing the math, that comes out to around $19 per session for my inner thigh.

In all, the cost ended up being affordable for me. I was happy that I didn’t end up having to pay an amount that would throw off my monthly budget!

Convenience

If you’re like me and don’t like having a bunch of appointments cluttering up your schedule, you may find going to laser appointments every 6 weeks a little taxing. Especially if it’s for practically two years! But if you decide to do fewer sessions, or you don’t mind having regular appointments, then it should be a nonissue.

The nice thing about the appointments was that they rarely went over 20 minutes, with most of my time spent in the waiting room rather than being lasered. The lasering itself generally took about 5 minutes. If you’re having a larger area done, like legs or arms, the appointment time will be longer. But for inner thigh or bikini laser hair removal, the process is quick.

Is Laser Hair Removal Painful?

I didn’t think it was! At most, there was a mild burning feeling if I concentrated on the sensation enough. There’s a fan attached to the laser that blows cool air during the process, and it covered up most of the burning for me. The sessions are so quick that even if you are experiencing discomfort, it will be over in a matter of minutes. On a scale of 1 to 10, the pain was at most barely a 2.  Don’t let the fear of pain hold you back from trying laser hair removal!

Is It Effective?

The term “removal” can be misleading. It makes it sound as though there will be a complete eradication of the hair, which generally is not the case. A more accurate term for what you’ll notice is a significant “reduction” of hair. It’s difficult to get rid of all of it, but what remains usually grows back lighter and less coarse than before.

Laser hair removal works by damaging the hair follicle and cutting it off from any blood vessels feeding it. The laser only works on hair in the anagen stage of growth, and only about 20% of your hair is in the anagen stage at one time. Consequently, multiple sessions are required to get a better finishing result.

I saw a change even after just one session! By the time I was halfway through my package of bikini sessions, the irritation that had been a regular occurrence before was a rare sight. My bikini line area has little hair now, close to none. The hair on my inner thighs is still present, however, it’s patchy and definitely reduced from the amount that was there before. I feel like the effect overall was positive!

Do I Recommend Laser Hair Removal?

100% yes, all the time!

For me, bikini laser hair removal was totally worth the time and money. I love that I rarely ever get irritation or red bumps anymore when I shave in my bikini area or inner thighs. My skin is consistently smoother and happier.

If you’re looking for a smooth, irritation-free shave, I highly recommend considering laser hair removal!
