iUNIK is a brand that is near and dear to my heart. (I also have reviews of their Propolis Vitamin Synergy Serum and Centella Calming Gel Cream if you want to check those out!) They make good quality, simple, easy to use products at affordable prices. I bought the Beta-Glucan Power Moisture Serum just as the fall weather was beginning to arrive, and I intended to begin including it in my routine to help fight the onslaught of winter dryness. I’d often seen other iUNIK users say that this was their favorite serum out of the whole range, so I’d had my eye on this particular one for a while. Finally, the time had come to slap it on my own face! So how was it, do you ask? Allow me to share!
Ingredients
Before I get into how this felt on my face, let’s do a quick rundown of the ingredients. The ingredients list is pleasantly short!
Aqua, Butylene Glycol, 1,2-Hexanediol, Beta-Glucan, Sodium PCA, Ethylhexylglycerin
That was easy, right? Moving on past the ever-so-obvious “aqua”, we’ll address Butylene Glycol. This ingredient acts as a solvent for the other ingredients, and it helps enable the formula to penetrate down into the skin. It’s a humectant ingredient, so it attracts water. Then we have 1,2-Hexanediol, which has a number of functions. It gives a product a soft and pleasing texture, as well as act as a humectant and an emollient.
Beta-Glucan is the star ingredient after which this serum is named. Beta-glucan is a polysaccharide that is found in the cell walls of various yeasts, oats, algae, and mushrooms. It’s great for people that have sensitive skin, and it’s extremely effective at soothing and moisturizing. It’s an antioxidant, and it can help in wound healing as well. On top of all that, its ability to deeply moisturize the skin helps prevent wrinkles. Overall, it’s a great addition to any product!
Sodium PCA, which stands for Pyrrolidone Carboxylic Acid, is an ingredient that is found naturally in our skin. It helps our skin retain water and stay well-hydrated. Lastly, there is Ethylhexylglycerin, which can act as a preservative, but also has some handy emollient properties.
Usage
This serum settled so easily into my routine; it seemed like it had always been there! I like to use it after I apply my actives and before my moisturizer. The texture of the beta-glucan serum is quite similar to products that are primarily made up of snail mucin. It has that sticky, stringy, watery sort of feel, which I happen to enjoy! There aren’t any scents or dyes in this product. The natural smell of it is faintly metallic but quickly fades after application.
It layers wonderfully under my moisturizer and sunscreen without causing any pilling. The finish is slightly sticky, but it disappears mostly under the layers that follow. It is a pleasure to use, and it feels wonderful when I apply it.
Results
The Beta-Glucan Power Moisture Serum isn’t exactly the type of product that will be changing your skin in a drastically obvious way. It’s more of a faithful, background-type product that will support your skin and keep it healthy. It has done a great job of keeping away dry/crepey winter skin, and I love the level of moisture that I feel on my face when I use this serum.
You can find this serum for around $24 on both Amazon and YesStyle. I think it’s a good value for the use that you get out of it, as well as its effectiveness. If you’re looking for a comfortable, useful hydrating serum, then the Beta-Glucan Power Moisture Serum might be perfect for you!
